The Spider’s Web is the story of two abused Nigerian women, Nnenna and Ejiro, who form a deep bond, their suffering creating a strong solidarity.
Nnenna—Originally weak and submissive, she endures the abuse inflicted on her by her clergyman husband in order to provide for her parents and protect her children. Emeka, her husband, values her only as a sexual object and a caretaker for his home. Slowly, the problems in Nnenna’s life start to show themselves. Tension creeps in. Her devotion and love for her family cause her to stay a little too long, with fatal consequences.
Ejiro—In the 1980’s, skinny, ugly, dirt-poor Ejiro, 14, runs away from her family’s apartment to escape her lecherous father’s drunken advances. Down and out, she falls in love with Jayjay, a cute boy who’s a few years older, who turns out to be a pimp. Jayjay forces her into a whorehouse, a disastrous abortion soon follows. Ejiro, now older, can only think of revenge.
